“No llores porque algo se acabó, sino sonríe porque sucedió.”
Ayer se cumplió una semana desde mi regreso de Chicago para Orlando después de la conferencia de Latinos in Social Media (LATISM ’11).
He tenido la buena fortuna de asistir a muchas conferencias a través de los años, pero puedo decir sin lugar a duda que ésta fue la mas productiva, la mas educativa, la mas divertida, y la mas emocionante para mí.
Es imposible poner en palabras lo que yo viví, sentí, y aprendí durante esos días, pero tal vez con algunas palabras, par de videos, y muchas fotos, comenzarás a ver el cuadro completo. 😉
También quiero compartir algunos de los momentos más memorables para mí durante la conferencia:
- Conocer a Brian Cockman y Edwin Gil la noche ántes de que comenzara LATISM ’11. Como ellos, Mami y yo fuimos de los primeros en llegar a Chicago, nos encontramos en el hotel para tomar cóctels. ¡Jamás en mi vida me había reído tanto! Nos hicimos amigos casi instantáneamente, y a partir de ese momento los cuatro fuimos inseparables durante la conferencia.
- Volver a encontrarme con Elianne Ramos, a quien yo le llamo cariñosamente mi “LATISM bestie.” Yo la conocí en Twitter hace más de 3 años (creo!) y hemos usado muchas maneras de comunicación para mantenernos en contacto. La conocí en persona finalmente en agosto del 2010 durante la conferencia BlogHer ’10, en Nueva York. No basta con decir que fue un encuentro emocionante y alegre. Esta vez ver a Elianne fue hasta mejor todavía, ya que nuestra amistad ha crecido y madurado mucho.
- Servir en el panel de “Reaching Out for Health Using Social Media” (“Alcanzando a personas para la salud usando los medios sociales”) con Lilliam Acosta-Sánchez de March of Dimes y Alison Lemon del FDA Office of Women’s Health, y moderado por Javier von Westphalen de HMA Associates. Cada panelista tuvo la oportunidad de hacer una presentación, y luego tomamos preguntas del público sobre nuestras iniciativas, y de como mejor usar las redes sociales para promover causas de salud.
- Conocí por primera vez (en persona) a Juan Alanis de Juan of Words, quien ha sido no sólo un gran amigo, sino como mi hermano del alma. Juan también escribe para el blog de LATISM, y fue una muy bonita experiencia poder conocerlo finalmente después de tantos y tantos meses de tuitear.
- Conociendo a @JuanofWords por primera vez. ¡Un evento histórico! Meeting @JuanofWords a.k.a. “Juanito” for the first time. EPIC!
- Compartiendo la victoria con Alberto Saldamando, quien va dirigir el capítulo de la Florida Central conmigo.
- Alberto Saldamando, Co-Director del capítulo de LATISM de la Florida Central, y yo. El ganó el premio para “Best Latin@ Tech Blogger.” Alberto Saldamando, Co-Director of the LATISM Central Florida Chapter, and me. He won “Best Latin@ Tech Blogger.”
- ¡Compartir todo con Mami, mi mejor amiga del mundo! Mami también asistió a la conferencia, y no se perdió nada.
- Meeting Brian Cockman and Edwin Gil the night before LATISM ’11 began. Since they, Mami and I were among the first to arrive in Chicago, we met at the hotel for cocktails. I’d never laughed so hard in my life! We all became friends almost instantly, and from that moment, the four of us were inseparable during the conference.
- Reuniting with Elianne Ramos, whom I affectionately call my “LATISM bestie.” I met her on Twitter over three years ago (I think!) and we’ve used many ways to stay connected. I finally met her in person in August 2010, at the BlogHer ’11 conference in New York. To say it was an overwhelmingly emotional and happy encounter would be an understatement. Seeing Elianne this time around was even better, as I feel we’ve both grown and matured in our friendship.
- Serving on the “Reaching Out for Health Using Social Media” panel with Lilliam Acosta-Sánchez of March of Dimes and Alison Lemon of the FDA Office of Women’s Health, which was moderated by Javier von Westphalen of HMA Associates. Each panelist had the opportunity to make a presentation, and then we took questions from the public regarding our health initiatives, and how to better use social networks to promote health causes.
- I met Juan Alanis of Juan of Words for the first time (in person), who has been not only a wonderful friend, but like a brother to me. Juan is also a writer for the LATISM blog, and it was an awesome experience to meet him in person after months and months of Tweeting each other.
- Sharing victories with Alberto Saldamando, Co-Director of the LATISM Central Florida chapter!
- Sharing everything with Mami, my best friend in the world! Mami was also able to attend the conference, so she didn’t miss out on anything.
Good lowdown on the the conference, Laurita! I am soooo bummed to have missed the conference but have enjoyed seeing/hearing all of the great experiences being shared online, in real time as well as afterward.
You have found your voice, congratulations! But to all of us out here, you’ve always had it. I love the metaphorical chanletazo. ¡Viva La Chancla y Viva LATISM!
