When I visited Seattle and Vancouver with my family, one of my priorities was finding the best places to enjoy a latte with no rush.
Without further ado, I’m sharing some of my absolute favorite finds in the Pacific Northwest with you! Perhaps you, too, will join my insomnia craze and become “Sleepless in Seattle or Vancouver.”

This place will always hold a special place in my heart, because it was my first #CafecitoBreak upon arriving in Seattle. Don’t be put off by the generic name; this place is a treasure!

With a low-key hipster vibe and just steps away from Pike Place Market, this shop is spacious and has a strong commitment to fair trade by purchasing its coffee directly from the farmers in Latin America and East Africa whenever possible. They sell their coffees within seven days after roasting, so it is always fresh.
The result is an amazing, full-bodied taste! I could have stayed there savoring my cafecito forever.
Este sitio siempre tendrá un lugar especial en mi corazón, porque fue mi primer #CafecitoBreak al llegar a Seattle. No te dejes espantar con el nombre genérico; ¡esta tienda es un tesoro!
Con un ambiente sencillo de “hipster” y a pocos pasos del Pike Place Market, este café es espacioso y promete adherir al comercio justo al comprar los cafés directamente de los agricultores en Latinoamérica y el este de África siempre que sea posible. Ellos venden sus cafés dentro de siete días después de tostarlo, así que siempre está fresco.

- Ghost Alley Espresso, Seattle
You can be enjoying a leisurely stroll in Post Alley and completely miss this gem if you’re not paying attention. Ghost Alley Espresso, named as play on words for its “Post Alley” address, is located in the iconic Pike Place Market in Seattle. The hole-in-the-wall offers organic espresso by Queen Anne Roasters actually roasted by the shop’s owner, Mercedes Carrabba and its small space makes this about as no-frills an experience as you can get as a coffee aficionado. However, there’s such a cozy feeling that comes with sitting in front of the window and watching as locals and tourists alike pass by in Pike Place.
I need not even tell you how amazing the coffee is, because there’s a reason this cubby hole with an espresso machine continues to attract hundreds of people each day. Suffice it to say, it’s divine, and the rich, often spooky history of Pike Place that haunts the coffee shop serves as an added bonus to those who dare to try a brew or two.
Nothing says “I’ve landed in an authentic spot” than a window with an Anthony Bourdain quote.

- Ladro Coffee, Seattle
I remember this spot very well because I arrived there for a #CafecitoBreak just when they were about to close. I was lucky that Shadow, the barista, was very friendly and patient as I ordered my obligatory latte and asked him twenty questions. Being in Seattle, one can get a decent coffee in many places, but I loved that he talked to me about his experience as a barista and the coffee they prepare there.

My 15 minutes of cafecito were delicious, and Shadow really knows how to prepare an awesome latte!
Bonus: During the Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle, Ladro Coffee donated .50 cents for every cookie purchased to support inclusion!
Este lugar lo recuerdo muy bien porque llegué allí para un #CafecitoBreak justo cuando iban a cerrar. Tuve suerte de que el barista, Shadow, fue muy amable y paciente en lo que yo ordenaba mi latte obligatorio y le hice veinte preguntas. Siendo Seattle, uno puede conseguir café decente un muchos sitios, pero me encantó que él me habló de su experiencia como barista y del café que preparan allí.
¡Estuvo rico mis 15 minutos de cafecito, y Shadow sí sabe preparar un latte delicioso!

- Voxx Coffee, Seattle
My last coffee stop in Seattle needed to pack a punch. Before heading out to Vancouver by bus, I knew I needed to fuel up. Voxx Coffee was a welcome surprise, not far at all from the Sheraton Seattle where I stayed!

With that familiar smooth, malty flavor I love so much, I was sold on the coffee. The retro vibe was completely unexpected and I was fascinated by it! With understated mid-century decor, this is a very refreshing take on the cliché coffeehouse look. The final touch for me, the pièce de résistance, was the map of the world proudly displayed on the wall, inviting me to chart my next voyage.
Mi última parada para café en Seattle necesitaba un café que me llegue. Antes de salir para Vancouver por autobús (guagua, ¿okay?) yo sabía que me hacía falta combustible. ¡Voxx Coffee fue una sorpresa agradable, y no queda lejos del Sheraton Seattle dónde me quedé!
Con ese sabor familiar a malteado que tanto me fascina, me convenció. ¡Las vibras retro fueron completamente inesperadas y me fascinó el diseño! Con decoración sutil de mediados del siglo, fue una interpretación interesante en lugar del diseño cliché de los cafés. El toque final para mí fue el mapa del mundo desplegado orgullosamente en la pared, invitándome a planificar mi próxima jornada.

After visiting Seattle, I frankly didn’t expect much of Vancouver in the coffee department. I was gladly mistaken! Vancouver has a fantastic coffee culture, with quite a few powerhouse coffeehouses to boast.
One that I truly loved not only because of the great lattes, but because of its aesthetic, is Pacific Coffee Roasters.
I also noticed as soon as I walked in that the show seemed to be run by women, which I found so refreshing and empowering. These young baristas from Japan were extremely talented in crafting drinks, and my latte couldn’t have been more delicious.
Of course, it helps that every inch of this store appears to be Instagram-worthy!
Un lugar que en verdad me encantó, no sólo por los lattes tremendos, si no también por su estética, es Pacific Coffee Roasters.
También me fijé tan pronto entré en que las mujeres parecían ser las líderes allí, que yo encontré eso muy interesante y empoderador. Estas baristas jóvenes de Japón eran muy talentosas en preparando bebidas, y mi latte no pudo haber sido más delicioso.
¡Claro, ayuda que cada pulgada de esta tienda se ve digna de Instagram!
- JJ Bean Coffee Roasters, Vancouver
On days when the weather in Vancouver is sunny and welcoming, you’ll want to order a coffee from JJ Bean. The java kiosk is ideally located by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) offices. On any given day, you see casual locals and young professionals clamoring for their morning fix at the window.
Their croissants are very buttery, flaky and absolutely delicious and satisfying!
En los días en que el clima en Vancouver está soleado e invita a estar afuera, vas a querer ordenar un café de JJ Bean. El kiosco de expreso está idealmente situado al lado de las oficinas del Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). En cualquier día, tú verás locales casuales y profesionales jóvenes esperando su dosis de cafeína de la mañana al frente de la ventanilla.
¡Los croissants saben a mantequilla, son volaitos, y absolutamente deliciosos y satisfacen!
- East Van Roasters, Vancouver
This Gastown spot is trendy and has pretty good coffee. What’s more- they have a roaster on site, which is always a great sign for me!
Everything about the motif is very spot-on! It was another great find in the already-happening Gastown district. It’s definitely a place I wouldn’t mind lingering for a while!

Todo acerca del estilo de este lugar está perfecto. Fue otro tremendo sitio para encontrar en Gastown, que ya es súper popular y tiene mucho que ofrecer. ¡No me molestaría quedarme allí un rato!
- Revolver Coffee, Vancouver
I saved this one for last because I really think if you try it, you’ll wonder why it took you so long to discover it. Like its name, the coffee at Revolver is badass and takes no prisoners.
The warm, clean, hipster vibes and the wanderlust-inducing decor totally impressed me. Even more so, I was impressed by the line of baristas working side-by-side using Chemex brewers and pouring the perfect latte, with a strong, malty smooth flavor. Perfection in a mug.
The charming and historic neighborhood of Gastown would be well worth a visit for Revolver alone, but there’s plenty to see, do, taste, and stroll nearby. I could have honestly left Vancouver after this, because it’s tough to compete with Revolver’s fine taste, sublime ambiance, and great staff. It’s high-caliber indeed.

Dejé este para lo último porque en verdad pienso que si lo pruebas, te preguntarás por qué te tomó tanto tiempo descubrirlo. Como su nombre, el café en “Revolver” es badass y no come cuentos.
El ambiente cálido, limpio, y hipster y la decoración con tema de viajar el mundo totalmente me impresionó. Más todavía, quedé impresionada con la fila de baristas trabajando uno al lado del otro usando las máquinas Chemex para preparar café y sirviendo el latte perfecto, con un sabor fuerte, malteado y cremoso. Perfección en una taza.
El vecindario histórico y carismático de Gastown valdría mucho la pena sólo por Revolver, pero hay suficiente para ver, hacer, probar, y caminar cerca. Honestamente, me pude haber ido de Vancouver después de esto, porque es difícil competir con el sabor fino, el ambiente sublime, y el personal excelente. Es verdaderamente de alto-calibre.
Mind you, these are my opinions based on my first visit! Of course, I didn’t visit nearly as many places as I wanted to. I’ll have to return someday and finish this assignment!
