En junio, fui a Puerto Rico por dos semanas para una visita muy anticipada a mi familia, y, bueno, unas vacaciones.
A demás de quedarme en casa de mi Abuelita, como siempre hago, tuvimos la oportunidad como familia de quedarnos Papi, Mami y yo en el Condado Plaza Hilton– nuestra primera vez quedándonos en este hotel de lujo.
In June, I went to Puerto Rico for two weeks on a long-postponed visit to family and, well, a vacation.
Besides staying at my Abuelita’s house, as I always do, Papi, Mami and I had the opportunity to stay as a family at the Condado Plaza Hilton– our first time staying at this luxury hotel.
¡A lo mejor me acostumbro a esto!
I could probably get used to this!
Me sorprendió lo cómodo que era nuestra habitación regular, y mi silla de ruedas cupo fácilmente. El balcón también hizo un área ideal para desayunar todos los días.
I was surprised at how comfortable our standard room was, and my wheelchair fit easily. The balcony also made an ideal area for enjoying breakfast every day.
Nos acomodaron en un cuarto con vista hacia el mar. ¡Increíble!
We were placed in an oceanview room…amazing!
En el lobby del Condado Plaza Hilton, hay una pecera maravillosa con criaturas como esta.
In the Condado Plaza Hilton lobby, there’s a glorious fish tank with creatures like this one.
Yo no siempre uso las piscinas en los hoteles. Pero esta parte del hotel te recuerda que estás en una isla tropical, con vegetación preciosa.
I don’t always use hotel swimming pools. But this part of the hotel reminds you that you’re on a tropical island with gorgeous, lush vegetation.

La barra localizada en el lobby del hotel es classy y sofisticada, con un toque elegante de “retro.”
The bar located in the hotel lobby is classy and sophisticated, with an elegant touch of retro.
¡Y si no tienes vista hacia el mar como la tuvimos nosotros, tener vista hacia la laguna no está nada de mal!
And if you don’t have an oceanview room like we had, having a view to the lagoon isn’t bad at all!
El Condado Plaza está a una distancia breve en carro del Viejo San Juan (o yendo a pie, una caminata no muy larga).
The Condado Plaza is a short drive away from El Viejo San Juan (or if walking, the walk isn’t too long).
El Viejo San Juan sigue siendo, y siempre será, uno de mis favoritos lugares.
Old San Juan continues to be, and will always be, one of my favorite areas.
Claro, ver a Puerto Rico como turista, y no sólo como alguien que visita casi todos los años, fue una de las atracciones más grandes para mi. Pero otra fue disfrutar ese tiempo con mis padres, y con mi familia extendida, quienes nos visitaron una tarde en el cuarto.
Of course, the opportunity to see Puerto Rico like a tourist, and not just as someone who visits nearly every year, was one of the biggest attractions for me. But another was enjoying that time with my parents, and with my extended family, who visited us one afternoon in our room.
Y como comer en Denny’s es casi una tradición familiar cuando vamos a Puerto Rico, fue necesario que fuéramos a comer allí con ellos.
And since eating at Denny’s is practically a family tradition when we go to Puerto Rico, it was necessary to eat with them at the Denny’s at the hotel.
Aquella no fue la única vez que fuimos a ese Denny’s. También desayunamos allí un día. Estuve impresionada con el café en particular, que es muy bueno, y no “café americano.”
That wasn’t the only time we went to Denny’s. We also had breakfast there one day. I was particularly impressed that they serve really good coffee, and not “American coffee.”
Lás demás mañanas compramos desayuno en Caribe Café dentro del hotel. Luego nos lo llevábamos para comer en el mejor comedor.
The other mornings, we bought our breakfast at Caribe Café inside the hotel. Then, we would take it with us to eat at the best dining area.
Algo que no nos esperamos fue encontrarnos a Johnny Lozada de Despierta América (¡y de la época Menudo de Ricky Martin!), quien se estuvo quedando en el Condado Plaza Hilton esa semana. Lamentablemente, no tuve tiempo de tomarme foto con él…¡pero fue muy amable!
Something we didn’t expect was to run into Johnny Lozada of Despierta América (and from Menudo, the Ricky Martin generation!), who was staying at the Condado Plaza Hilton that week. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to take a photo with him…but we was really sweet!
Una tarde, fuimos al casino y escuchamos a un trío cantando canciones clásicas. En verdad, en este hotel hay de todo, para todos los gustos. Y para el que prefiere la simplicidad de la naturaleza…
One afternoon, we went to the casino and heard a trio singing classical songs in Spanish. Truly, this hotel has something for everyone, for every taste. And for those who prefer the simplicity of nature…

En verdad, no hay mejor manera de volver a enamorarse de su país natal que ir en “luna de miel” con él. Así fueron estas vacaciones para mi…volví a conocer, a explorar, y quedé encantada de nuevo con mi querida Isla del Encanto.
There is truly no better way to fall in love again with your native country than going on a “honeymoon” with it. That’s what this vacation was like for me…I once again got to know, explore, and was enchanted once again by my beloved Island of Enchantment.
