Estamos oficialmente en el mes de la hispanidad, y no se puede hablar de los logros de los Latinos sin pensar en los sueños que impulsaron esos logros.

La vida me ha brindado tantas oportunidades que sería casi imposible imaginarme que se me cumplan más deseos. Pero, todos tenemos dos vidas– la que estamos viviendo ahora en el momento, y la que soñamos tener.

La organización Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) ha hecho que algunos de mis sueños se conviertan en realidad. En noviembre del año pasado, durante la conferencia de LATISM en Chicago (la primera para mí), me concedieron el deseo de darme el premio de “Best Latina Health Blogger” (mejor bloguera de salud). Cuando subí a la tarima para recibir ese honor, se me llenaron los ojos de lágrimas mientras les agradecí a todos los que votaron por mí y me habían apoyado hasta ese momento.

También viví una experiencia inolvidable cuando fui una de las blogueras escogidas por LATISM para el Top Latina Bloggers Retreat, un retiro para las blogueras Latinas más reconocidas en la nación. Nos invitaron a todas a la Casa Blanca y pude participar en una reunión informativa donde expresé mis preocupaciones para la comunidad de espina bífida a un grupo de oficiales de la administración del Presidente Obama.

En verdad, muchos de los “sueños” que se me han hecho realidad es porque cuento con el respaldo de una organización que cree en el futuro de los Latinos como influenciales en la política, en las obras benéficas, en la educación, en la salud, y en muchas otras plataformas.

• Gaby Espino es modelo y actriz de telenovelas. También es directora de televisión, y ha salido en videos de música de cantantes como Luis Fonsi.

• Ingrid Hoffmann es una chef muy popular gracias a su programa en The Food Network, “Simply Delicioso,” y también por su programa “Delicioso” en Galavisión. Ella escribe una columna mensual para People en Español, es dueña de un restaurante en Miami, y ha salido en el programa “Martha” de Martha Stewart.

• Julissa Bermúdez y Adrienne Bailón son un duo poderoso. Las mejores amigas son protagonistas del programa “Empire Girls: Julissa & Adrienne.” Julissa era presentadora del programa de BET “106 & Park.” Adrienne encontró la fama como cantante, y luego como actriz en el canal de Disney cuando salió en la película “The Cheetah Girls.” También ha sido invitada a salir en los programas de la famosa familia Kardashian.

• José Garcés es empresario y chef que ha abierto quince restaurantes exitosos. El ganador de la competencia “The Next Iron Chef” le ganó al notorio Bobby Flay en 2008.

We’re officially in Hispanic Heritage Month, and you can’t discuss the achievements of Latinos without reflecting on the dreams that propelled those achievements.

My life has afforded me so many opportunities that it would be nearly impossible for me to imagine more of my dreams coming true. But, we all have two lives– the one we’re living right now, and the one we yearn to live.

The organization Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) has made some of my dreams come true. In November of last year, during the LATISM conference in Chicago (my first LATISM conference), they made my wish come true by presenting me with the “Best Latina Health Blogger” award. When I took to the stage to receive this honor, my eyes filled with tears as I thanked all who voted for me and who had supported me up to that point.

I also lived an unforgettable experience when I was chosen by LATISM to take part in the Top Latina Bloggers Retreat, for the most influential blogueras in the nation. We were all invited to the White House and I participated in a briefing where I expressed my concerns for the spina bifida community to a group of President Obama’s administration officials.

Really, many of my dreams have come true because I count on the support of an organization that believes in the future of Latinos as influencers in the fields of politics, social good, education, health, and many other platforms.
